Working life - what's important
Thanks for popping in. I’m James, a freelance designer and developer, who loves delivering creative projects from my office in sunny Hertfordshire. Whether you need help with a website, graphic design, animation or software development project, I’m always keen to hear about new projects. Why not drop me a line?
I’m passionate about design and development. Once into a project, I sometimes need to be dragged away from my computer to eat! The same cannot be said for tea. I always work with a good supply of tea to hand.
Over the past 11 years, I’ve worked on a varied range of design and development projects, where my skills as a self-starter, a planner and multi-tasker have been crucial. Despite being a self-confessed ‘techy,’ one of my key strengths is communication – there’s no ‘geek-speak’ here, just clear, straightforward information.
The lovely chart opposite shows my current ‘geek rating’ across a wide range of design and programming tools. As you can see, there’s plenty in the toolbox to choose from, so I can be flexible, depending on the needs of your project. If the tools don’t mean much to you – don’t worry; just take a look at what I’ve done.
I have lots of experience of educational publishing – where I’ve enjoyed developing software products for children. Other key areas of experience include website and mini-site development, CMS systems, animation, creating wordpress themes, design for print and sound fx creation.
I’m happy working as part of a team, often alongside busy marketing departments, or just working on my own initiative - whatever the project requires.
The Plan.
The Look.
The Development.
The Results.
A little note about words. Writing copy isn’t my thing, but successful design projects usually go hand-in-hand with effective words. A good copywriter will tease out your USPs and tell the world about it in exactly the right way. I’ve worked with a copywriter on lots of projects and she knows her stuff – so we can help out here too, if required.
If you’d like an initial discussion, why not drop me a line? I look forward to hearing from you.
